Signs Your Sprinkler System Needs Repair
Dry patches, pooling water, a high water bill, heads that do not pop up and a zone that will not run are the common signs a system needs repair, and the EPA's WaterSense Sprinkler Spruce-Up advice is to check for breaks and leaks before watering more.
-
Dry patches
A brown patch in a green lawn usually means a head is not reaching it: clogged, sunken, knocked out of line or fed by a zone with low pressure.
-
Pooling water
Standing water or a strip of soggy turf points to a leak in a line, or a head that does not shut off when the zone does.
-
A high water bill
A bill that jumps with no change in the schedule often means water is leaving the system underground where nobody sees it.
-
Heads that do not pop up
A head that stays down is broken, jammed with sand or starved of pressure by a leak somewhere upstream of it.
-
A zone that will not run
A zone that never comes on, or one that runs with the controller off, usually comes back to a valve or an electrical fault.
-
A valve box full of water
Lift the green lid in the yard. A "valve box" full of water points to a leaking valve or fitting below it.

How a Sprinkler Repair Works
A repair starts with an assessment that runs the system zone by zone to find the fault, fixes the most urgent problems first, then recalibrates the zones and tunes the nozzles so water spreads evenly.

-
Assessment
The assessment finds where the problem is, what causes it and the most cost-effective fix that will last, so a cracked fitting is not mistaken for a bad valve.
-
Zone-by-zone test
The system runs one "zone" at a time from the controller, each zone a group of heads on one valve, checking for damaged heads, leaks and low pressure.
-
Repair
The most urgent repairs come first, ranked by how much water they waste and how much they hold the system back. Minor adjustments often fix the problem outright.
-
Recalibrate the zones
With parts replaced, the zones are recalibrated so no water is wasted and no dry spot is left, and the controller is programmed for the lawn it waters.
-
Tune the nozzles
Head placement and nozzles are tuned so water spreads evenly across every zone, and the system is run once more before the job is called done.
What we fix
Sprinkler and Irrigation Services
We offer sprinkler installation, backflow testing, sprinkler blowout, sprinkler head repair, drip irrigation installation, sprinkler valve repair and sprinkler leak repair on residential and commercial systems, and each service has its own page.
-

Sprinkler Head Repair
A head that stays down, sprays the sidewalk or geysers when the zone comes on is the most common repair call. Broken, sunken and stuck heads get replaced or re-set, and the nozzle is matched so the spray lands where it should.

Sprinkler Leak Repair
Pooling water, a soggy strip along a line or a valve box full of water points to a leak. The break gets found and the pipe or fitting fixed.
sprinkler leak repair -

Sprinkler Valve Repair
A zone that will not run, or one that runs with the controller off, usually comes back to a valve. It gets tested, then rebuilt or replaced.
sprinkler valve repair -

Sprinkler Installation
A new system laid out zone by zone for the lot, with heads spaced for even coverage and the controller programmed before the first run.
sprinkler installation -

Drip Irrigation Installation
Low-flow "drip irrigation" for beds puts water at the roots on its own zone, and it is repaired separately from the in-ground spray system.
drip irrigation installation -

Backflow Testing
The "backflow preventer" keeps irrigation water from flowing back into the supply. It gets tested at start-up and whenever a test is due.
backflow testing -

Sprinkler Blowout
Blowing out the sprinklers clears the lines with compressed air before a system sits idle, so pipes and valves do not crack.

What Sprinkler Repair Costs
Sprinkler repair is priced by the number of zones, and pump systems, larger systems and commercial properties cost more. In the trade a service quote is tiered by zone count, with bands of 1–7, 8–13 and 14 or more zones, and a system over about 12 zones, a pump-fed system or a commercial property is charged more than an ordinary residential system.
Some providers add a trip fee to cover sending a technician out. We quote the whole job before we start, with no surprise charges after. Minor adjustments often fix a sprinkler problem and avoid the cost of a whole new system, so the estimate starts with the smallest fix that will hold.

Keep it running
Keeping a Sprinkler System Working
A system should get a thorough check at least once a year, with heads adjusted monthly, because regular service keeps water distribution even, prevents both overwatering and underwatering, heads off unexpected breakdowns and greatly extends a system's life.
Spring is the best time to inspect and repair, so problems are caught before peak watering: a thorough "start-up" inspects heads, valves and rain sensors before a small fault becomes an expensive one. Summer service checks that the system can handle heavy use in hot, dry spells, and a mid-season tune-up checks for leaks, clears clogs, realigns heads and adjusts the program for the heat. The EPA's WaterSense watering tips add the other half of the job: a lawn typically needs about an inch of water a week, rain included, so the program is set to the season rather than left on one schedule all year.
Any brand, any installer
Repairs on Any Brand or Installer
A system another contractor installed can be repaired. Repair contractors work on systems from any brand and any installer, so the company that put a system in does not have to be the one that fixes it.
Lake-fed and well-fed pump systems are a specialty of their own. Some systems run off an irrigation pump that has to keep the water pressure up, and when the pump falls short every zone downstream suffers, so the pump gets checked along with the zones.

My sprinkler system was 30 years old and needed replaced. They replaced everything on 1-7-21. The crew and Carl were excellent and answered all my questions and explained everything. Carl also explained the NEW digital system to me, making sure I understood how to use it. They only replaced what was necessary and were very fair. Strongly recommend this company.
